No they're not a scam, have sold thousands of dollars worth of product on gumroad and never had a problem with them.
The people that call them a scam are the one's that are selling shady/scam software products and get 'surprised' that their accounts get banned.
No matter what type of account you have on Gumroad, we take out fees on all sales greater than $0.
In other words, if you are processing money on a sale, then we are taking a fee.
If you don't make money (i.e. if your product is free), then we don't make money. ... We take out our fee on every sale as it happens.
